OK! Beauty Awards 2017

The OK! Beauty Awards returned for 2017 and with it came a party of some of the biggest names in showbiz attending the event in the Pavilion event space in the iconic Tower of London.

For its 16th year, the awards saw stars from TOWIE, Love Island and Strictly Come Dancing gathering to see a huge 300 beauty brands battling it out across 30 different categories, including the one they all want, Product of the Year.

The event began with a speech from OK! Magazine editor, Kirsty Tyler, and was hosted by Amanda Holden. With a whole range of high profile influencers attending, it was no surprise the hashtag for the evening, #TheBeautyAwards2017 was all over social media.

This is only the second year that OK! Magazine has partnered with the Beauty Awards, after last year’s event at The Banqueting House being a success.

Here are some of Style Cloud’s favourite looks of the night…

Candice Brown

Wearing her signature red lipstick, Candice looks elegant but powerful in this black and red floral number. The sheer material at the bottom of the dress is the perfect addition alongside the plunging neckline, giving her that classic look she wears so well.

Emily MacDonagh

Peter Andre’s wife looks stunning in this simple but classy dress. Velvet is one of the most popular materials of the year, and although it may not be for everyone, it suits this dress, and Emily, perfectly. What makes it even more perfect is the fact that this dress is from Boohoo! Get it here 💗

Stephanie Pratt

Stephanie sparkled in an embellished dress. Also sticking with the more classic look, her waved hair style compliments her face with her subtle yet beautiful makeup done by MUA Melissa Sophia.

Kady McDermott

After receiving support from many after her Good Morning Britain role model appearance, Kady also added her sparkle to the vintage look that was certainly a favourite at the awards. Her dress, much like Candice Brown, has the sheer material at the bottom, which is a perfect detail to draw attention to the whole dress, not just the sparkle at the top. Also matching with Candice was the powerful red lipstick that adds that small amount of colour to her outfit.

Dare to go Dark 💋💄

Dark lipsticks can seem quite scary to a lot of us. But don’t be mistaken that they are just for Halloween. Autumn, winter or even spring and summer, they are a favourite ❤

Whether it be a deep burgundy or a ruby red, picking the right colour for you is all part of the dare. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the darker colours, but make sure you choose one that will suit the rest of your features.

For those of you with light coloured eyes I would go for a lighter burgundy colour, with more of a pinky base. For dark eyes and even dark hair, the darker more brown based burgundy lips are a perfect look.

Here are some of my favourite celeb dark lip looks:

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer always goes for a more pink/plum based burgundy, meaning it looks perfect whether she is a brunette or a blonde. Her eye make-up is always quite natural, with a lighter colour and darker liner making them stand out, which also helps to bring out the colour of her lips.

Cara Delevingne

 Cara Delevingne

Cara’s make-up always looks flawless and I always love the style she goes for. With her having light eyes, dark make-up really suits her, and with her stand out brows, dark lips do not look out of place on her but instead blend in with the rest of her make-up perfectly.

 Lily Collins

 Lily Collins

Many people with a pale skin colour like Lily would be afraid of trying such a dark colour. However she pulls it off so well as much like Cara, her dark brows, eyes and hair blend with the colour of her lips.

Rihanna’s skin tone, dark eyes and dark hair are perfect for dark lips. Her choice of a subtle burgundy to match her dress is perfect for a classy evening look. However I absolutely love her for choosing a dark purple as part of her casual day look, which I think makes her look so bold and sassy.

So don’t you be afraid to go bold with a dark lip this season, as there are the perfect shades for all skin tones. Check out my pick of the best dark lipsticks:

Dark Side – Mac – £15.50

 L'Oreal Paris

Colour Riche in Preliminaire – L’Oréal Paris – £6.99

Lip Chic in Damask – Chantecaille – £30

 Tom Ford

Lip Colour in Dark and Stormy – Tom Ford – £38

And my personal favourite has to be the Maybelline Superstay 24hr. This lipstick is dual ended, which means it combines the colour with a long wear balm on top. First apply the colour and leave for two minutes, then apply the balm over the top to make the colour bright and long lasting. My go to colour is Cherry Pie, which is just between a red and a burgundy, without being too dark. Perfect for a night out and so easy to reapply throughout<3

Superstay 24hr Dual Ended Lip Colour in Cherry Pie – Maybelline – £8.99

Holiday Beauty Haul 💅🏽💄☀️

A holiday haul is a must when travelling abroad! Whether it be clothes, makeup, perfume or even just little memoirs to take home with you. A benefit of being in Lanzarote is that there are plenty of shops, little and large, that are full of all these things. So yesterday I had a bit of a holiday beauty haul…

Revolution Makeup is a brand from London that I admit I had never heard of until I came to Lanzarote. However it is sold in the UK in Superdrug.

Their Radiant Lights Highlighters palette is perfect for creating a shine just on the cheekbones, making them stand out within contouring. You can also apply it on the bridge of your nose, the corners of your eyes, your brow bone and at the centre of your forehead (as modelled by my beautiful sister).

I also couldn’t resist their eyeshadow palettes. There were so many to choose from, but after about 5 minutes I finally chose the iconic 3 palette.

I love experimenting with eye shadows as you can make such nice colours using three or four different shades. I decided to try two different looks on my sister: a nude and more girly look and a smokey eye look.

(From the palette above, left to right = 1-12)
For the nude look, I wanted to create a colour that is quite natural and versatile with outfits. This can be more of a daytime look.
I started off with colour 3 as a base, as this will hold an overall colour for the eye, whilst also bringing all the other shades together. Over the top of this I added colour 2 for a shine and colour 1 to add a highlighted effect around the edges of the eye. This makes the darker base colour stand out more and also shapes the eye. Finally I used colour 6 for a slightly darker tone around the edge, with a small tint in the corner, whilst not overpowering the other shades.

For the smokey eye look, I wanted to create a smoke effect without making the eye too dark. Sometimes this can overpower the rest of your makeup and this is something I wanted to avoid.
For the base I used colour 8 to again hold the colours and bring them together. For the smoke effect I used colour 12. When doing smokey eye, try not to use too much as this can make the eyes too dark. Blend the darker colour with the other shades instead of using it as a block colour. Finally I added colour 1 around the edges of the eye and in the corners, again to highlight and shape the eye.

Revolution Makeup Highlighter: Radiance Palette – £8

Revolution Makeup Redemption Palette: Iconic 3 – £4

Lola Makeup is also a range that I had never heard before but do an amazing collection of lipsticks, eyeshadows and foundations that remind me a lot of MAC.
I was particularly drawn towards the lipsticks, two colours in particular: Coco Dream and Mocca. They are two colours that aren’t too dark but will both stand out and give your lips perfect shape.

LOLA Intense Colour Lipstick – Coco Dream – £12

LOLA Intense Colour Lipstick – Mocca – £12

Here are some of the other items that I used:

Clinique High Impact Mascara – £17.50

Brow and Liner Kit – The Body Shop – £10

Chanel Highlighter Brush

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush – £9.99

Coco Chanel Quote

“Beauty is a characteristic of an animal, idea, object, person or place that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure or satisfaction.”

“An ‘ideal beauty’ is an entity which is admired, or possesses features widely attributed to beauty in a particular culture, for perfection.

These are both correct however I feel beauty is when you can truly be yourself and make yourself look how you want others to see you. Some people say this is wrong, that natural is better but I think natural beauty is just the same as making yourself look on the outside how you feel on the inside. I enjoy doing my make-up and seeing the transformation from my sleepy morning look to my ready for the day ahead look is definitely a positive!

It is often said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, so here are some of the products I use on a daily basis:

I love using Clinique products as they always make me feel refreshed. I use these particular ones at night to take my make-up off and clean my face. To remove my make-up I will use the Clinique Clarifying Lotion with a cotton pad, gently cleaning off everything, including eye make-up. I will then use the Clinique soap with a bowl of warm water to make sure my skin is properly cleaned. This is also very relaxing before bed. To finish, I apply the Clinique Foaming Cleanser Mousse onto wet skin to smooth and moisturise.

Clinique Facial Soap with Dish – £15

Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 – £16.50

Clinique Rinse-off Foaming Cleanser – £17

Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid foundation is one of the best foundations I have ever used. I use the Ivory colour and it is great for coverage but gives a natural look at the same time. It is also perfect for nights out, as it stays on well and for a long period of time. Along with this, their Natural Beige Matte Maker powder is great for helping the foundation to stay on. With it being a liquid foundation, this powder also takes the shine away and helps to give a clean, matte coverage. Both last a long time, doing their job but saving money at the same time! Maybelline also do my favourite lipstick. Their Superstay lip colour works in two steps. First is the colour which is more of a gloss and then at the opposite end is a moisturising balm that is applied on top to help it stay on. I love it!

Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation – £7.99

Maybelline Matte Maker Mattifying Powder – £3.99

Maybelline Superstay 24hr Dual Ended Lip Colour – Cherry Pie – £8.99

No 7

No 7’s Match Made Concealer is a must in my make-up bag; I can’t go anywhere without it! It is perfect for covering blemishes. I put it over the top of my foundation and I find that most of the time you would never even know there was a spot/mark there. Their match made service is great, as this colour matches perfectly with my skin. It is so compact that it is also brilliant for carrying round with you, just like a lipstick with its design. No 7 also have a wide selection of nail varnish. Their Gel-Look Shine varnishes make your nails look professionally done and Red Velvet is my personal favourite. With its smaller but wider brush it is really easy to apply for someone like me who is awful at getting it all over their hands…

No 7 Match Made Concealer – £7.50

No 7 Limited Edition Gel Look Shine Nail Colour – Red Velvet – £7

St Tropez

I have always been quite wary of using fake tan as I was always scared of making myself look orange. So you can imagine the fear I was feeling when I rubbed it in for the first time but I was pleasantly surprised! St Tropez gives a bronzed glow however does not go over the top with the colour. I find it so easy to apply and it made me feel much more confident about using fake tan. I first use their tan enhancing moisturiser as I feel this is the best cream to use in order to bring out the colour but also to make sure that there are no patches when I apply the tan. Every time I have used these products I have had a natural looking tan, which was perfect in the winter as no one wants to look too brown in the cold weather.

St Tropez

St Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse – £10

St Tropez Tan Enhancing Body Moisturiser – £10

St Tropez Applicator Mitt – £4

Barry M

Barry M’s nail varnish range always has new colours and they always have a smooth finish when applied. These are two of my favourite colours of the moment, a dark purple which I loved through the winter months and the light purple is perfect for spring. I particularly love the light purple as it is part of the Gelly range, which requires more coats but as a result makes them look professional and adds an extra shine.

Barry M Nail Varnish

Barry M Classic – Vintage Violet – £2.99

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine – Prickly Pear – £3.99

Soap & Glory

Soap and Glory are known for their glorious bath lotions and moisturisers but I absolutely love their body sprays. They are great for carrying round with you for a random spray every now and then when you need it. It is also much better than carrying round an expensive glass perfume bottle! As well as having their two body sprays, I also carry round a bottle of their spray on moisturising cream, which is great for a little refreshment to use on my hands.

Soap and Glory - Sprays

Soap & Glory Body Spray – Mist You Madly – £6.50

Soap & Glory Body Spray – Glam A Lot – £6.50

Soap & Glory Moisturising Mist – Girligo – £6.50

Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler’s Alien is my favourite perfume. It has a rich floral smell and is instantly refreshing when sprayed. It is vibrant without being overpowering and that is why I love it. I also feel it is quite mysterious as well as being soft and comforting. I cannot get enough of Alien ❤

Alien Perfume

Thierry Mugler – Alien 30ml – £39
