Denim on Denim…on Denim? 👖

There is much more to denim than just jeans. It can be fun to be adventurous with it, and 2017 has seen more denim fun than ever. With denim jackets making it down the runway at New York and London Fashion Week, they are right out there in the style crowd.

The must know label Miaou, by Alexia Elkaim, is well known for its jeans with their distinguishing looks. However, even this signature denim line went beyond just jeans at New York Fashion Week and introduced denim jackets into the mix, coming in all different colours down the catwalk.

Every girls denim collection should consist of your comfy jeans, however be daring and try a new style. From flares to ruffle trim, and embroidery and sparkles, denim has been rebranded for 2017 and not only is it having it’s top runway moments, it’s a huge part of street style everywhere.

So update your denim this autumn, as this trend isn’t going anywhere.

Here is my guide to the key denim trends for your wardrobe this year…

Jackets

Denim jackets are timeless and I think they should be a part of every coat collection. A denim jacket is the ultimate wardrobe staple and they are only getting better with age. No matter what colour, oversized or embroidered, the denim jacket is bringing the 90’s nostalgia with a fresh new look. The good thing about denim jackets is they can be worn over a simple t-shirt and leggings day look, or a black jumpsuit with a pair of killer heels for the night. With an oversized jacket it is perfect for layering, and I particularly love an embroidered pattern on the back and on the sleeves for that something extra to complete your outfit.

(Middle) Sally Slim Fit Borg Collar Cord Jacket – Boohoo – £30

(Right) Blue Embroidered Oversized Denim Jacket – Missguided – (Was £55) Now £35

Jeans

A good pair of jeans are the item of clothing that every wardrobe needs. In a range of fits it is often impossible to choose just one pair of jeans (that’s why my wardrobe is full of different styles…). My go to pair of jeans are the Joni jeans from Topshop (featured above on the left). I love their comfortable fit and how stripped down or dressed up you can make them as part of an outfit. Whether you like boyfriend jeans or skinny fits, distressed or ripped, the right denim for you is out there. If you prefer your denim a little bit extra, just like the denim jackets, embroidery is a particular trend I am loving, especially on jeans.

(Left) MOTO Indigo Joni Jeans – Topshop – £36

(Middle) Mid Blue Ripped Amelie Super Skinny Jeans – River Island – £42

(Right) Pale Blue Floral Embroidered Ripped Tori Mom Jeans – New Look – (Were £29.99) Now £14 (Also available in black)

Skirts

Denim skirts are versatile and that’s what I love. You can take them from day to night with ease. Team it up with a simple t-shirt in the day time and even a pair of trainers to complete the outfit, but for night wear, with a pair of heels, the whole outfit is changed. With distressed and button up styles, there is an endless choice of denim skirts to choose from, and again includes the embroidery patterns that I love. The nude skirt above, from Missguided, (left) may be mistaken for suede, but it is denim and I love the lace up detail that adds to the look. I’m all for adding that little extra to make your outfit stand out, and fabrics such as lace are particularly special and a favourite of mine.

(Left) Nude Eyelet Lace Up Denim Mini Skirt – Missguided – £25

(Middle) Lola Lace Trim Distressed Denim Skirt – Boohoo – £18 (30% off at the moment means it is just £12.60, so get in there quickly!!!)

(Right) MOTO Mini Denim Skirt  – Topshop – £29

This skirt is also available in black and it is one of my favourite buys this summer.

Here are some more of my favourite denim pieces…

Blue Riot High Rise Floral Embroidered Jeans – Missguided – (Were £35) Now £17.50

Abegaila Light Wash Distress Oversized Denim Jacket – Pretty Little Thing – £30

Missguided Studded Floral Denim Skirt – ASOS – £25

Let me know your favourite denim styles…and are you brave enough to do double denim?

Hottest Heels 👠🔥

Don’t let your footwear be the last thing on your mind when choosing an outfit!

You can make a bold impact with a pair of shoes and getting the right style for you and what you’re wearing is key. Whether it is a chunky heeled sandal for comfy everyday wear or thin stiletto, there are so many different styles to try and enjoy.

Stepping into the new season we have seen plenty of new footwear trends straight off the catwalk. The stiletto is still thriving as well as seventies-inspired styles such as embroidery, and the spring/summer 2017 shoes collections are full of colour, glitter and patterns galore.

It is said a girl can never have too many pairs of heels and the higher the heel the closer to heaven! But getting the right height, comfort, colour or style is sometimes tricky for a lot of people. Need new heels? Time to update your shoedrobe and get ready for some inspiration here on Style Cloud.

Strappy Heels

Strappy heels are great for something subtle and non overpowering for your outfit. They go well with a simple slip dress but also look great teamed with a pair of jeans and a top. A chunkier heel is my go to for a casual look but also makes them a lot comfier to wear, which is why they are great for a day out. A thinner heel makes the shoe a lot more elegant and look perfect with dresses or skirt and top combos.

(Bottom Left) Jess D Buckle Block Heel Sandal – Boohoo – £25

(Top Right) Black Rounded Four Strap Barely There Heels – Missguided – £30

(Middle Right) Grey Comfort Triple Strap Back Block Heels – New Look – £25.99

(Bottom Right) Katie Double Band 2 Part Heels – Boohoo – £25

Lace Up Heels

The lace up trend has been around for quite a while now but I love it more than ever. Now spring is well and truly on its way we are seeing some new takes on this popular look, with not only the popular criss-cross style taking over but we can also see many with the tie around the ankle, taking it even further. Sometimes we even have lace up as high as the knee, but I have chosen not to include those as I want to focus on heels. Last season included skinny stilettos and metal eyelets, but we are now seeing a neater look with the tie up’s, rounded toes and a bolder block heel.

(Top Left) Lexis Khaki Faux Suede Lace Up Heels – In the Style – £32.99

(Top Right) Julia Heels in Black Faux Suede – Public Desire – £29.99

(Bottom Left) Pink Tie Detail Shoe Boot – River Island – £48

(Bottom Right) Serenna Black Lace Up Sandals – Pretty Little Thing – £30

Court Heels

Pointed court shoes are the perfect way to look chic and sophisticated. They also dress up the simplest of outfits such as jeans and a top without looking too overdressed with the casual clothes. They are a timeless trend that are an elegant choice to enhance both your day and night look. Court shoes are now appearing in all colours, including stand out patterns such as leopard print and glitter. So, the choice is yours whether to stick with the traditional court or be courageous with your courts.

(Top Left) Lucy Pointed Glitter Sole Court – Boohoo – £22

(Bottom Left) Nicole Point Courts Black Nubuck Leather – Office – £68

(Top Right) Gamble High Point Court Shoes – Topshop – £56

(Middle Right) Macy Toe Cap Court Shoes – Topshop – £32

(Bottom Right) Public Desire Keeley Clear Detail Grey Court Shoes – ASOS – £29.99

Patterned Heels

A patterned heel is a statement piece for your outfit. It is often just the accessory you need to complete your look, whether this be a floral embroidery, a glitter cover or animal print, it needs to be the right pattern to suit what you’re wearing perfectly and make it even better. Your mood can often also determine which pattern you will choose, so a flirty floral pattern can add a girly element to your outfit or maybe a bold animal print to bring out your wild side!

(Top Left) Light Pink Floral Embroidered Platform Heels – New Look – £32.99

(Bottom Left) Pink Marble Finish T-Bar Heeled Sandals – Missguided – £35

(Top Right) Black Snake Skin Print Strappy Heels – River Island – £45

(Middle Right) Onto Point Court Rose Gold Glitter – Office – £68

(Bottom Right) Black Suedette Embroidered Heels – New Look – £29.99

Fur Heels

Fur embellished heels are everywhere at the moment, and I love them! From Gigi Hadid to Kim Kardashian, this trend is popular and I think there are definitely more styles to come. Not only have we got fur lined straps, but we now see, straight off the catwalk, heels with fur foot beds, adding extra comfort to your heels. So, love it or loathe it, the fur footwear trend is here to stay.

(Top Left) Darcy Faux Fur Lined Two Part Heels – Boohoo – £28

(Bottom Left) Vinnie Faux Fur Footbed Sandals – Topshop – £52

(Top Right) Faux Fur Vamp Sandals – Zara – £39.99

(Bottom Right) Black Fluffy Vamp Strap Barely There Heeled Sandals – Missguided – £35

Peep Toe Heels

Peep toe heels are a favourite of mine not only for at night but also in the day with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. They are back and better than ever, but how do you style this trend? Thin stiletto heels are a contrast with the block coverage of the shoe, so these are a good pair for a classy night look. A block heel is a lot bolder and can sometimes act as more of a shoe boot, so these are perfect for in the day as they can be very comfy. It is all about choosing the right heel to compliment your outfit with the full coverage over the foot.

(Top Left) Khaki Peep Toe Block Heel Shoe Boots – River Island – £50

(Middle Left) Blue Suedette Peep Toe Heeled Sandals – New Look – £29.99

(Bottom Left) Open Toe High Heel Ankle Boots – Zara – £19.99

(Top Right) Noelle Nude Elastic Detail Heeled Sandals – Pretty Little Thing – £35

(Bottom Right) Khaki Suedette Ankle Strap Open Toe Heels – New Look – £27.99

Here are some more of the hottest heels around…

Shining at the Oscars 🌟

cover-photo

Style Cloud is full of award ceremony fashion at the moment but the outstanding dresses of the Oscars are a definite stand out.

Even with the disastrous mixed up ending with La La Land being wrongly announced as winner of Best Picture, there was plenty of excitement and shining stars that the Oscars always promises. One of those stars in particular was Emma Stone, who won Best Actress for her lead role in La La Land. They may not have won Best Picture in the end but there was no reason for her to feel disappointed as she became the first actress to win an Oscar in a Givenchy dress since Audrey Hepburn (lucky designer I’m wondering?).

The Oscars are the best of the best, the top height of celebrity fashion. This year’s awards did not disappoint as a host of stars took to the red carpet ready to shine at the Oscars. From Naomie Harris wearing one of Raf Simons’ first pieces with Calvin Klein to Emma Stone looking like a real life Oscar herself, there was certainly a magical selection of outfits on display.

Here are some of my favourite looks from the night…💁🏽

Isabelle Huppert

isabelle-huppert

Dress: Armani Privé

Isabelle is often seen wearing trouser suits and smart tailoring to award ceremonies. Her dark lipstick stands out but adds to the elegant look she has gone for with the dress.

Brie Larson

brie-larson

Dress: Oscar de la Renta

Dramatic in a statement black dress, but looks fiery with the red lipstick, which looks great against her pale skin. Ruffled hair brings the look back to earth and shows not much effort is needed for Brie to look good.

Emma Stone

emma-stone

Dress: Givenchy

This gorgeous embellished dress looks old fashioned but perfect on Emma with her red hair and pale skin. She shines in it whilst definitely looking Oscar worthy.

Alicia Vikander

alicia-vikander

Dress: Louis Vuitton

Alicia Vikander always looks effortless at awards ceremonies, often looking like a real life princess. This elegant black lace number and toned down makeup gives her the perfect natural look that she works best.

Hailee Steinfeld

hailee-steinfeld

Dress: Ralph & Russo

Although many have been negative towards Hailee’s choice of gown, I love it. The light material and floral design compliments her and I think this is a great look for the Oscars.

Felicity Jones

felicity-jones

Dress: Dior

Plain and simple ballerina look that looks perfect on Felicity.

Naomie Harris

naomie-harris

Dress: Calvin Klein

This outfit is flawless and with the small cut out detail, the heart shaped front stands out but also pulls together this all round perfectly toned down look.

Chrissy Teigen

chrissy-teigen

Dress: Zuhair Murad

Whilst being one of the cutest couples in the world with her husband John Legend, Chrissy is ever consistent at awards ceremonies with her sensational dresses. This Zuhair Murad dress looks great with the gold detail on the front adding that bit extra to a flowing dress, along with the thigh split.

Karlie Kloss

karlie-kloss

Dress: Stella McCartney

Supermodel Karlie Kloss suits this floor-sweeping white dress perfectly. The asymmetric cape detail and the diamond choker add even more to this outfit, but don’t overpower. Her classic Hollywood hairstyle with loose waves ties it all together.

Emma Roberts

emma-roberts

Dress: Vintage Armani

This plunging neckline gown with a beaded skirt shows why black and gold work so well together, especially for an awards ceremony. Emma also suits the red hair and lips well.

Brit Awards 2017 🎤✨

cover-photo-3

Yet another award ceremony has been and gone. The Brit Awards are always a favourite before the upcoming BAFTA’s and the Oscars.

This year’s Brits saw some of the biggest celebs and names in music come together in London with fashion to rival the recent Grammys. With stars such as Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora walking the red carpet, the glitz and the glamour was there from the very beginning, and it was all about to get a whole lot more spectacular!

ed-sheeran-and-stormzy

Ed Sheeran and Stormzy

With enough shock outfits and shock wins to bring the house down (quite literally in Katy Perry’s performance), the night was full of show-stopping performances, including the most unexpected but amazing combination of Ed Sheeran and Stormzy. Beyoncé and Adele won more awards (of course!) and Little Mix took home one of the biggest prizes for their single ‘Shout Out to My Ex’.

Glamour at the Grammys 📀👠

img_3963

The red carpet at the Grammys is always full of fashion explosions, experiments and all round glamour. This year the celebs definitely did not hold back on their outfit choices!

The 59th Annual Grammy award nominees and long line of A-listers were out in force. Adele and Beyoncé were in the spotlight from the start with their head-to-head nominations in not one but four categories, including Album and Record of the Year. With Adele’s speech came drama and hilarity, after it appeared she broke her award in two for ‘her winner’ Beyoncé! A pregnant Beyoncé delivered a powerful performance as usual and the drama definitely did not end there.

lady-gaga

Lady Gaga

The Grammys is often a place for risks, and this year was certainly very risky. Stars hit the red carpet for the event in a collection of some outrageous outfits, and for the first time Lady Gaga was not the riskiest look of the night!

Halsey

Halsey

Halsey arrived at the event bra-less in a sapphire blue silk suit that was just waiting for a wardrobe malfunction to happen. Singer Jacqueline Van Bierk also turned up in a dress covered in CD’s, so for once Gaga was pretty low key.

However, with all award ceremonies there are the glamorous and they did not disappoint on this occasion. Here are a few of my favourite looks from the night…💁🏽

Top Trends for 2017 💁🏽💓

cover-photo

2017 is set to not only bring us new styles but is also taking us back in time with trends very similar to those worn in the 70’s and 80’s. From stripes to flares, this year is expected to be full of new items to excite us all. So have that much needed beginning of the year winter clear-out of your wardrobe, and get ready for an even more needed update.

Straight off the catwalks, there are so many pieces filling the stores already this year, many that are considered a breath of fresh air in my dark winter wardrobe. One of my first fashion predictions of the year is colour, something which I in particular struggle with. I am always drawn straight towards black and grey, which do look good over the winter months but it is always good to have some colour to mix it up. Pastels are a particular favourite and in this post I will be showing how you shouldn’t be afraid to be colourful on a rainy day.

There will also be alternative hems to add a bit of detail to your outfit, including embroidery in a subtle way, and items that can be worn both day and night. So here are some of my must watch trends for 2017…

Peplum Tops/Ruffle Hems

The word peplum comes from the ancient Greek word ‘peplos’ which means tunic, and that is exactly what this design resembles. The peplum trend was around a few years ago and I loved it then, but now it is back and better than before. It has been taken one step further with not only tops featuring the ruffle hem but also jackets, shirts and dresses and is now one of the most popular trends on the high street.

This style can be used for any body type depending on where the hem falls. Shorter at the sides but longer at the front and back work for curvier body types and styles that are longer at the sides but shorter at the front and back are perfect for those with narrow hips.

Here are some of my favourite peplum pieces… (Click the images to find out more!)

peplum-top-1

Black Sheer Peplum Top – New Look – £12.99

peplum-top-2

Patrice Lace Up Peplum Top in Mocha – Boohoo – £10

peplum-top-3

Nude Floral Applique Frill Hem Top – River Island – £26 (Online Exclusive)

peplum-top-4

Grey Fine Knit Frill Peplum Top – New Look – £11.99

Biker Jackets

Biker jackets are another item that are making a comeback in 2017. This season sees the classic biker jacket being reinvented, especially in colours that you wouldn’t expect. Embrace the rock chic look but it doesn’t have to look like you’re auditioning for a band. Available in faux leather or a suedette style, the new pastel colours that are featured mean that they are versatile with any outfit.

Here are some of my favourite biker jackets…(Click the images to find out more!)

biker-jacket-1

Leather Effect Jacket in Silver – Zara – £19.99

biker-jacket-2

Faux Suede Biker Jacket in Pink – ASOS – £50

biker-jacket-3

Faux Suede Biker Jacket Grey – Missguided – £40

biker-jacket-4

Nude Oversized Faux Suede Shearling Lined Biker Jacket – Missguided – £65

biker-jacket-5

Pale Blue Leather-Look Biker Jacket – New Look – £29.99

Lace

From subtle lace inserts in your tops in the day to flattering and feminine lace dresses, this style can look so classy. In this post I have featured three River Island pieces as I think they use delicate and pretty lace for not only their tops but other items such as skirts and dresses (one of which is featured in my previous post Season Style: Winter Wonderland). So don’t be afraid, look luscious in lace!

Here are some of my favourite lace pieces…(Click the images to find out more!)

lace-1

Nude Lace Blouse – River Island – £30

lace-2

White Lace Insert T-Shirt – River Island – £28

lace-3

White Lace Floral Flared Sleeve Top – River Island – £35

lace-4

Billie Faiers Grey Satin Lace Trim Playsuit – In The Style – £29.99

lace-5

Binky Stone Plunge Lace Trim Shirt Dress – In The Style – £34.99

Embroidery

Designers have added little motifs to denim jackets for years, along with accessories. So now partnered with other staples such as plain white shirts, coats or skirts, this trend is coming alive this year. Embroidery is everywhere, and is perfect for winter, spring, summer and autumn, so make sure you add this extra detail to your wardrobes over the coming months.

Here are my favourites… (Click the images to find out more!)

embroidery-1

Callie White Embroidered Shirt – Pretty Little Thing – £25

embroidery-2

Juna Black Denim Embroidered Mini Skirt – Misspap – £24

embroidery-3

Anita and Green Black Embroidered Floral Jeans – New Look – £29.99

embroidery-4

Romeo Rose Embroidered Ankle Boots in Black Faux Suede – Public Desire – £39.99

Golden at the Globes ✨🎞

cover-photo

The Golden Globes 2017 marked the start of the awards season on Sunday and at the 74th annual event, the A-listers did not disappoint with their red carpet looks. The night was presented by The Tonight Show’s host Jimmy Fallon, after previous years have seen Ricky Gervais and comedy double act Tina Fey and Amy Poehler take on the job.

The night was full of surprises and highlights included some ever so dedicated speeches. Ryan Gosling chose to dedicate his acceptance speech to his wife, Eva Mendes, while guest of honour Meryl Streep went in on Donald Trump in a truly fabulous way whilst giving her acceptance speech for the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement.

But the best part of the night is obviously the outfits, choosing the best dressed. The first awards ceremony of the year brought out shiny dresses, flowing dresses, gold and silver, and even some jumpsuits. Here are some of my favourites from the night…
